Young Friends of Film screens Short Cuts
Thurs Dec 4 at 7 ~ Buy Tickets
Fifteen years since its release, many lesser imitations and ensemble films have come and gone, but Short Cuts remains the standard. Based on the writings of Raymond Carver, it masterfully weaves stories of disconnection and discontent between several L.A. characters. Boasting an all-star cast including Tim Robbins, Julianne Moore, Jack Lemmon, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Robert Downey, Jr. and Annie Ross, among many others, the film garnered several ensemble acting awards, opened the 31st New York Film Festival and won the Golden Lion at Venice. Actress and jazz great Annie Ross will answer questions after the screening; pending their schedules, other actors may attend. A post-film party with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres will follow the event. Young Friends of Film members receive one complimentary ticket. Admission for regular members and the public is $25.
Screenings of classic Hollywood & foreign films are introduced by the film’s director or cast, or a film historian or critic and frequently followed by a Q&A. At the catered post-screening party in the Furman Gallery, adjacent to the Walter Reade Theater, you can meet & mingle at the open-bar with your fellow film buffs. Some YFF events also feature live music during the post-screening party. Admission always includes free popcorn and soda, as well as a complimentary coat check and free raffle drawings for a great array of prizes. And sometimes even free gifts to take home!
