CliCiak: Photos from Italian Cinema June 3 – 11, 2008
In the Frieda and Roy Furman Gallery ~ adjacent to the Walter Reade Theater lobby. Open daily 1:30 to 6pm.
Now in its 11th edition, CliCiak is a national competition for still photographers held by the Town of Cesena Cinema Center. CliCiak invites photographers who have been engaged on movie sets during the year to submit their photos. A jury of experts selects the best picture and the best serial in black and white and color, which form the core of a traveling exhibition hosted by cities around the world.
The Centro Cinema Cittá di Cesena has been active in the photography of cinema for many years. This interest originated with the donations of important photographer’s collections
(Vittorugo Contino, Mario Tursi, Paul Ronald, Divo Cavicchioli) and other collected works (the Antonio Pietrangeli archive, with over 6,500 stills) and has continued to develop in association with “CliCiak”. Every year this unique photographic archive of contemporary Italian cinema increases due to the competition and presently contains over 10,000 prints. Furthermore, “CliCiak” pays tribute every year to a master of production stills of the past. Between exhibitions and personal collections, the Cinema Centre has put the spotlight on the works of Paul Ronald, Mario Tursi, Vittoruga Contino, Mimmo Cattarinich, G. B. Poletto, Divo Cavicchioli, Pierluigi, Angelo Novi, Bruno Bruni, Sergio Strizzi, Franco Vitale, Huguette Ronald and Franco Bellomo. The Cinema Centre has been active since 1980 and has a specialized media library available. It also promotes cinema culture through shows and seminars with the authors and creators. It has been organizing the Backstage Film Festival since 2005. For more infor more information visit Centro Cinema San Biago.
