Director of Marketing

Position summary:

The Director is responsible for directing and managing the marketing strategy for The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC), with a primary focus on building and sustaining audiences, achieving aggressive annual revenue goals for memberships, festival packages and single ticket sales and securing major corporate sponsorship. The Director takes a lead role in institutional brand management, creating and upholding a consistent local, national, and virtual identity for FSLC at the Walter Reade Theater and its programs, such as The New York Film Festival and Film Comment Magazine. In addition, FSLC has begun construction on a new theater complex which will add two additional screens to its operation in 2010. The Director will be integral to all areas of planning for the new venue. The Director is a member of FSCL’s senior management team and works closely with the Director of Publicity/Press, Director of Programming and the Executive Director to ensure effective and consistent external communications. He/she supervises a staff of full-time employees and is responsible for establishing a collegial, creative and productive work environment.

Responsibilities:

Marketing/Sales

• Provide marketing support for all aspects of the organization’s operations, including: all films at the Walter Reade Theater, special events including the New York Film Festival and New Directors/New Films; membership and tickets sales; Film Comment Magazine; Education activities and products; an annual large-scale gala benefit and major corporate sponsorship accounts.
• Conceive and manage execution of marketing plans for all performances that encompasses print/media placement, direct mail, and grassroots/community-based initiatives.
• Develop and manage the marketing operating budget.
• Develop the strategies and policies for pricing and utilization of ticket inventory for the dual goals of meeting income targets and maintaining accessibility.
• Work closely with the development department to identify and secure corporate sponsors for all activities at FSLC.
• Negotiate contract terms and conditions for major marketing and advertising services.
• Develop subscription and/or ticket packages for all programs.
• Create contemporary and comprehensive strategy for effective on-line ticket sales.
• Increase revenues through effective marketing of all FSLC’s activities and products.
• Oversee customer services programs and policies. • Work closely with all constituents of Lincoln Center to plan and manage the “infoscape” for Lincoln Center – a system of electronic advertising that is currently part of the Lincoln Center redevelopment plan.
• Work closely with Publicity Department to maximize promotion of organization’s activities.

Image Management and Branding:
• Establish, develop and implement comprehensive short and long-range strategic brand marketing plans in support of the FSLC’s overall mission, values and financial objectives.
• Provide leadership in the organization’s development of internal and external cross-marketing opportunities that consistently define and enhance FSLC’s reputation as a leading film presentation organization.

Qualifications:
• 5 plus years of marketing and/or advertising management experience within an entertainment or arts center environment. • Effective and creative strategic thinker and planner.
• Energetic passion for establishing FSLC as America’s leading film presentation organization and a track record that would suggest success in creating ways to accomplish such.
• Demonstrated experience managing, leading, training and developing a team of creative employees.
• Experience with serving and building audiences, overseeing and utilizing market/audience research, conducting advertising and promotional campaigns, managing systems.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience developing and managing budgets.
• Strong customer orientation demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work successfully in a collaborative team-based environment.

Beneficial Skills and Experience:
• Knowledge of film.
• Experience working in a non-profit arts environment.
